Data connection

Telescope Labs accesses your data through a Data connection. There are a number of different types of data connection, but these are the most common:

• Direct connection: Data is accessed directly from your database.

• Copied data connection: Telescope Labs maintains a duplicated, combined copy of the data for quicker retrieval and to enable cross-source analysis.

• API/SDK connection: Data is transmitted directly to Telescope Labs (potentially as the primary store)

Data flow

Data flow describes the movement and transformation of data from its source to its destination. With Telescope Labs the “Data flow” navigation option is a hub where data steps can be configured and optimised. For instance; adjusting data connections and metric definitions. This ensures correctness and consistency in results.

Dataset

A Dataset is a collection of related data, organized into a structured format like a table. These comprise of a name and a number of properties (columns), and an amount of data (rows).

Dashboard

A Dashboard is a visual display, showing key metrics and data points in a consistent and reliable manner. This allows users to monitor and analyze various aspects of their data at a glance.

Journey

A journey is a way of visualizing user behaviour through different key gates and pathways in your product. This is typically done with a “Sankey” diagram. WIth it, you can see how successful your product is at converting users through different funnels, and where users are getting lost during parts of the UX.

KPI

A KPI is a Metric of significant importance to how you assess the performance and/or success of your business. 

Metric

A Metric is a value that you want to track and measure and assess. For instance if you are a fruit stand, you will store every sale you make. One metric might be the number of apples sold, another might be the amount of revenue you make in a week.

Metric definition

A Metric definition is the calculation (or operational steps) required to generate a metric.

Project

A Project encompasses the collection, processing, analysis, and presentation of data within Telescope Labs. It is recommended to create Projects in alignment with how the products and services are divided within your organization.

Property

A Property refers to an attribute or characteristic of a data element within a dataset. For instance, in a customer data set, properties might include attributes like age, name, and email address.

Recipe

A Recipe contains different steps, analyses and considerations when forming an advanced response. These are relevant when Telescope Labs needs to answer more abstract questions. They help structure the answer by first evaluating the best things to consider before responding.

Report

A Report is similar to a Dashboard, in that is contains different analyses, metrics, charts, graphs and trends. However, a Dashboard will show the latest and most up to date data, a Report will not change; they are specific to a point in time. As such, the contents of an individual report can be dynamic to best suit the purpose of the report. This is in contrast to a dashboard where consistency is key.

Segment

A segment is a group of users with some similar property or behaviour. For instance, all users using Android, or all users who created an account within the last 14 years.
