Security FAQ

What documentation do you have available on your security, privacy policies and use of AI?

In addition to this FAQ, our policies, terms and trust centre available here
Data processing agreement: https://www.telescopelabs.io/legal/dpa

Privacy Policy: https://www.telescopelabs.io/legal/privacy-policy

Use of AI: https://www.telescopelabs.io/legal/ai-terms-and-conditions

Terms and conditions: https://www.telescopelabs.io/legal/terms-of-service

Security policy: https://www.telescopelabs.io/legal/security

Trust centre: https://trust.telescopelabs.io/

What certifications do you have around data security?

We are certified ISO27001 and SOC2 Type 2 compliant. For more information see our Trust Centre: https://trust.telescopelabs.io

Do you, or a third party, use customer data to train AI models?

No.

Where are your AIs run?

We operate our models (including chatGPT) through Microsoft Azure, and not through OpenAI. As such data, inputs and responses are never shared with OpenAI, other customers or used by Microsoft. They are entirely private. And the model instance is hosted by Azure, not OpenAI. Their full terms are available here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/legal/cognitive-services/openai/data-privacy.

How is our data used by the AI?
Your data schema, and some sample data is used to generate searchable meta-data which is then used by standard AI models to best answer the specific questions that you ask.

More specifically, we use a mixture of RAG, chain-of-thought, and the context window, and use a multi-agent pipeline of AIs to generate queries, function-calls, python code and text answers.

Do you take a copy of our data?

At the connection level, the only time we store your data is when you upload a file (e.g. CSV).

For all other direct connections we only store data about the data schema (data types, structure, names etc).

However, there are instances where some data would be stored even with direct connections.

  1. With some data types (e.g. enums and string values) by default we take some data samples to help the AI understand the shape of the data. For instance, whether a “country” column is represented by the full name, a two letter ISO code, or a three letter ISO code etc.

  2. Answers to questions are stored within the system for later retrieval.

What protections are in place for the data you do store?

All customer data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS).

What access controls are available to customers?

User access controls are available to customer administrators. Users can be assigned a role, and access to a subset of projects.

The access of the AI to the underlying data can be managed at the project level, where you can control the access to individual connections, datasets (tables, views) and properties (columns, values).

How is customer data kept separated?

Customer data is logically separated using dedicated collections and access controls.

Where is customer data geo-located?

USA Data Centres

How often is data synced?

Data is queried in real time, so there is no synchronization process. If there is a substantial change to the schema, then it is recommended that the connection be “reset” within the connection menu so that the AI has the most up-to-date knowledge of the data structure.

How is data queried?

Data is queried on demand by executing a query (e.g. API call, SQL) in response to a question. We recommend that customers create dedicated system, read-only account credentials for use by the Telescope Labs AI.
